In a stunning display of crass commercialism, I have designed a t-shirt for the awesome radio station 95bFM. They're available now, and are a bargain at only $25 -that's half the price of a fifty bag!

You can purchase these beautiful pieces of decorated cotton apparel via their website, or by visiting the bFM offices and buying one straight from the hard-working music elves themselves.

(Warning- this image may feature a monster eating a baby. There are possibly brains being chewed. bFM and the artist take no responsibility for any offense that may be incurred by the wearing of this shirt.)

funny sites i think are funny

Sunday, 03 January 2010 07:48

I spend a lot of time on the internet. Too long, some people say. This means I have a lot of websites I can turn to when I am in need of comedic stimulii. (In other words, I spend too much time surfing random crap and laughing.)

Anyways, here are a few of my favourite comedic sites, if you need some reading material for the summer break. (Or if you're in the Northern Hemisphere, and you need some reading material for being snowed in.) The overwhelming tone veers between 'nerdy' and 'cynical', but that's just a reflection of my awful sense of humour, I guess.

(The Customer is) Not Always Right - This one's for anyone who has ever worked in customer service, and has had to deal with those doe-eyed idiots that stumble around this world causing car accidents and buying Black Eyed Peas albums.

People of Walmart - Sorry, my American friends, but your ugly and weird people are so much uglier and weirder than the ones you find anywhere else.

E-mails from an Asshole - What it says on the tin. He's an asshole who replies to classified ads in the manner of an asshole.

27b/6 - David is strange, rude, funny, and comes from Australia. I won't hold that against him though, since the funny outweighs the rest.

Freelance Freedom comic - For any designer (web, graphic, print, etc) who has ever worked from home as a freelancer. Tthis comic speaks to us all.

Pictures for Sad Children - The adventures of a ghost, or something. I get easily confused when I don't take those pills.

XKCD - Comic strip. Geek humour. Awesome, awesome geek humour.

Clients from Hell - More designer humour... the scary part is, they're all real.

Superuseless Superpowers - Like "having 'Laser Pointer Vision' - it's not strong enough to do any damage, it just points things out."

Cracked - It used to be the lame cousin of Mad Magazine. Now, it's a humorous website full of bitterly cynical writings and lists, designed for the soundbite generation.

Regretsy - "Looks like you made it with your feet." This is the bastard offspring of Etsy, the site where you can sell your handmade wonders to the world. This site collects the things that, um, maybe you should have just set on fire and forgotten.

Lamebook - In a similar vein, this one collects stupidity from the ubiquitous social networking site we all know and hate.

OK... I'll add more to these over time. Check back.

thanks, Helen

Politics in New Zealand has always felt a bit like watching guinea pigs fight to the death; slow, harmless and... well, pretty depressing.

In regards to these people who make a career out of making decisions for other people (here and, undoubtedly, elsewhere), it is often only in retrospect that we can hold them up against their peers and truly realise just how good / bad / strange / Panda-like they were... which is why I now miss Helen Clark.

Now, to clarify, I'm not a Labour supporter. I don't really support any party across the board, preferring to cherrypick from the range of choices we have to the left of centre instead (thanks to MMP). If I have the time I'll take note of the issues and the office, or else I'll just go with whoever looks best on their billboard. (Hey, everyone should admit to their shallow moments.)

However, Helen crafted a very particular set of policies during her time as Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage- and the fact that she was the leader of the country at the same time surely helped her win arguments. There's a well-written piece about the Labour legacy in the arts here, but I'm keeping it personal - the reason I mention this is because I have been a direct recipient of these policies. Somehow.

Basically if it wasn't for Helen's policies, I'm fairly certain I'd still be working in retail, or back on the dole (that's the unemployment benefit, for my friends in the US). Instead, I was able to upskill myself, get a job in the creative sector, and now I've started my own business. Shot, Helen.

Oh, and now Helen is Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme - so she's gonna be doing this sort of thing (but on a more basic level) for the rest of the world, which is just freakin' awesome.

Thanks, Helen.

noise rock for your bunghole.

Wednesday, 18 November 2009 06:36

I made an album cover for a split LP from two young NZ bands, god bows to math and TFF. The album comes out this weekend on Muzai Records.

The bands make fucked up noise rock, so I created something that would suit the recording. If any other bands want graphics done get in touch, I'll do it for beer and/or Xbox games.

the story so far, in pictures

Sunday, 08 November 2009 19:55

Yeah, so I made a slideshow of all my old paintings (including all the crap ones) and put it on Youtube. I think I'm missing something like 50-100 images - if you own a painting that isn't on there, please, send me a photo.

If you've got a spare 8 minutes you can see the slideshow here.

inaugural post (number seven).

Friday, 06 November 2009 20:31

So I've rebuilt my website. Again. I think this is the seventh version of this website I've built since it's launch in 2001 -- but this is the first time I've been able to build a 'proper' site. Mainly because up until now it was hosted on a pocket calculator.

Does this mean I have to keep doing interesting stuff in order to blog about it? ...how about food blogging? ...the last thing I ate was a banana in a Turkish-style roll.

....

...um, no.

Anyway. Better things to come. stick around punks.

-P

(Nb- please let me know if you find anything in the site that doesn't seem to work properly- and tell me what browser and OS you're using too, if that's possible. Unless you're using Internet Explorer 6, in which case you should set your computer on fire, claim the insurance and buy a fishtank.)
